I believe technology should work for people. Our interactions with digital media should be rewarding not trying, educational not insulting, and intuitive not obtuse. I believe design is default, not an optional add-on, but good design is rare.

3/2011 to Present: Move, Inc

User Experience Designer

Part of the User Experience Design team for Move.com, Realtor.com, SeniorHousingNet.com, Moving.com and more. Sharpening my design skills, learning from fellow designers, and building valuable experience. Working with product managers, researchers and developers on a variety of feature/interaction/styling efforts for our sites.

1997 to Present: James Carleton Design / E&J Design

Designer -web, app, print, product

Web/Print/Product Designer for a variety of businesses and organizations.
Sold, managed, and delivered design services for solo and collaborative projects.

2010 to 2011: TinyPrints.com (a Shutterfly co.)

Front End Developer

Front End Developer for two booming e-commerce brands.
Programmed html/css for website re-brand, seasonal edits, SEO and marketing emails.

2005 to 2009: Thomas J. Carleton Architecture (aka Carleton Building Design)

Architectural Drafter/Project Manager/Print+Web Designer

Architectural Drafter/Designer at father’s design firm. Eventually ran the business solo.
Developed concepts, presentations, construction drawings, and print/web marketing.

2002 to 2005: exo Design

Industrial Designer/Print+Web Designer

Product/Web Designer for small consultancy which served big names and unknown entrepreneurs.
Managed team projects throughout the product development processes: idea to reality.
Created branding, product strategy, market research, concepts, 3D CAD and more.
